A couple of questions about my kitty..?
Question by pancakes: A couple of questions in this area my kitty..?
The vet said my cat might have FIP due to her history. She had some vomiting and diarrhea (im sure it was because of her meds for her URI) and the vet insists she has FIP. One day she got a cloudy eye and I was pretty sure it was because she hit her head on something and got a blood clot. But no, the vet insists she has FIP. We even got a test done and it came out negative. So we go to the vet after her cloudy eye is gona and she says the symptoms will come back. She is still insisting! But right now, my cat is running, playing, eating like crazy, and having habitual stool. Why does the vet keep insisting she has it??
My following question, my cat has a small brown spot under her mouth its a food stain becuase she has white fur. We bought bath wipes and tried to wipe it off but it wouldnt come off! It’s like a really stubborn stain, is there anyhow we can get it off WITHOUT getting her groomed.
Thanks so much for your help!

Only tests can tell for sure as far as your vet’s diagnosis.
As for the material under her mouth – it sounds like it’s just her glands.

1. Find another vet and seek a following opinion. Obviously the vet you’re seeing is qualified and might be insisting it’s right because her training and experience tells her that it is, but if you don’t trust your vet’s opinion you certainly need another one, even if it turns out she’s right.
2. Are you quite sure it’s a food stain and not fur markings? I would suggest you get some cat clean (don’t use anything that isn’t specifically formulated for cats) and bathe the area with the clean and some warm water.

I’d say take your cat to a different vet and get a following opinion – the current one doesn’t seem to want to listen to you.
On the following question – my cat is all white and she has the same come forth with the brown spots. We can’t get it off without really annoying her so we leave it and now and again she gets most of it off herself.

Your vet sounds like a quack. FIP-Feline Infectious Peritonitis-is a serious shape up which is fatal and from what you’ve described your cat doesn’t have the symptoms of FIP.
I would seriously recommend result a different vet before your kitty, god forbid, gets something serious. Vets are like people doctors – just because they went to school and have the title doesn’t mean they are really qualified to diagnose and treat the patient.
I would recommend result a vet or clinic that specializes in cats only. Find a holistic pet food store in your area to see if they have any recommendations (make sure you talk to the employees who are cat people), or use the 3rd link not more than to find cat vets in your area.
Use your intuition when going to any vet (or doctor), and do research on any diasnosis and prescribed treatment to make sure the vet is doing the right thing. This is your kitty’s well being were talking in this area so don’t be worried to fire your vet and go to another one, and you don’t have to clarify why.
I don’t know in this area that stain. Could she possibly have feline acne? Are you feeding her something with artificial coloring in it? If so perhaps change her food to something more natural. I don’t know. Try some hydrogen peroxide on the spot. Get some hydrogen peroxide that doesn’t have any extra ingredients in it (read the lable; just H2O2 diluted with water in to a 3% solution is the usual commercial ratio but some companies add some other crap so dodge those brands), place it in a small spray pot and spray a small on her chin (much simpler than trying to pour it on her). Or since it is not a wound you can soak a cotton ball with the peroxide and apply it that way. Really that would be simpler on her chin anyhow. Hydrogen peroxide is not toxic to ingest a small bit, but try not to get it in her mouth cause it will foam up in her mouth and might freak her out. It might take a few treatments. I don’t know if it will completely take the stain away, but it might help.
By the way, could you possibly mean FIV rather than FIP? There are no definitive tests for FIP, but a negative test for FIV usually means no FIV but should be repeated in 6 months if exposure is suspected.

There is no reliable test for FIP in cats and no cure, so it is unusual that the vet is insisting she has it. It’s wise to get a following opinion whenever there is skepticism.
You are right in this area antibiotics used to treat URI’s causing similar reactions in cats. If either of these problems show up again, you may want to question the vet in this area trying l-lysine or interferon, both of which have shown excellent results.
As for the spot, if it won’t come off by wipes, just leave it alone and eventually it will go away. If you are by plastic food bowls, get rid of them and buy stainless steel or china bowls. Plastic is known to hold bacteria and can cause acne like problems on the chin.
