Please help…questions on potty training boys!?

Question by Momto2inFL: help…questions on potty training !?
My son is 22 months ancient and has shown fantastic interest in potty training. Over the past month or so, we’ve been building a point to celebrate when he pees in the tub or in the shower so that he can be more aware of it all. He’s now at the point of tearing off his diaper and trying to pee which goes to show us that he’s ready to start potty training. My husband and I have let him walk around without a diaper because we want him to feel that urge if possible and pay concentration. I know he’s young, I’m not expecting miracles here and of course I expect many accidents.

This weekend alone, we made MANY trips to the huge potty with a stepstool and my son climbed up, lifted the lid, and stood there. He never peed but he pretended many times and I reckon we’re on the right path here. And then of course, since we let him run around naked, he peed 3 times on my carpet. He was very excited in this area it and keen it out to my husband and myself. Not once did we yell at him for it but we celebrated and then tried showing him the huge potty again.

We’re wondering if we should buy some small man undies. When he’s around the house? Not sure if it’ll help or not, but we talked in this area it.

So since I have no thought how to potty train a boy, I was hoping some of you who have been down this path can give some words of information. How do we get him to pee in the potty and not all over the baffle? How do we make the potty/bathroom a fun place? Or is he by now showing us that he understands because he runs in there and lifts the lid? Should we go ahead and buy him some huge boy undies?

Any information is GREATLY appreciated! Thanks!

My husband takes him into the bathroom every time he has to go and my son stares and watches very intently. You can tell he’s watching everything and taking it all in. He’ll be 2 in Nov and my daycare will help with potty training once he’s 2 yrs ancient so that will also help a fantastic deal. I thought in this area giving him candy or a treat each time he uses the potty but I have done that with my stepdaughter before and she would “try” to use the bathroom every 5 minutes just for a cut of candy. It was more in this area the candy then it was in this area the potty training so I’m not too sure if I want to attempt that route with my son. But maybe it could work if we use stickers or something instead. Thanks for the tips so far!

have dad bring him in with him to show him where he’s supposed to do this… just showing them the potty doesn’t always work i’m a single mom and trying to potty train my boyz was tuff but then my brother took them in with him and they seemed to get it better. Also huge boy undies would be fantastic for him they help because disparate a diaper or pull up the stay wet and don’t suck up the urine so they know they are wet. and you could get them in his fav. characters and material my boyz got excited in this area their undies lol and question him often if he has to pee… right now my neice is potty training and when she goes in the potty we give her a couple m&m’s she likes them lol and it’s working well… hope this help sounds like he’s ready for it! Excellent Luck!!!

The cheerio’s or goldfish thought is fantastic but if he is standing on a stool to pee, he may not feel safe to pee. You will probably want to start him sitting down on the potty. (I look excellent, he will not do this forever. Just until he is tall enough to pee standing up.) I would definately place him in training pants. (well padded underwear) You can get them nearly somewhere. (Babies R Us, Wal-mart) This is what I did and it sounds crazy but I place my son on the potty and tickled his tummy and he would laugh so hard that he would pee every time!!

We made a potty chart. I hung it on the back of the bathroom door. Stickers for when they go, in the toilet only. I wouldn’t get excited for peeing on the baffle. I would calmly say, we go pee in the toilet. I wouldn’t do candy. Set a goal for stickers on the chart. Then get a small surprise from the dollar store and let him pick something out of like a treasure box when he fills in or goes in the toilet every time in one day and build up from there.

Added….I sat my son backwards on the toilet so he didn’t feel like he was going to fall in.
