I’m sorry to keep asking but I’m sooo lost when it comes to potty training boys. We’re a family of ALL girls, all my cousins are girls, and I have nobody out of my friends that has children or if they do, they don’t have boys.
My husband and I are currently potty training our son. He’s 22 months ancient and has shown huge cryptogram of being “ready” to check out the huge potty. He’s completely skipped the small potty altogether and just doesn’t seem interested in it. He does like the huge potty and has no problem sitting on it.
Right now, my son will poop in his diaper and take it off immediately. He’ll bring it to my husband or myself and we tell him poop goes in the potty. We dumped it, let him flush it, and we’re on our way. When it comes to pee, my son will run to the bathroom, lift the lid, stand on his stepstool, and pretend to pee. He “finishes” and flushes and closes the lid and he’s on his way.
He prefers to run around the house with no diaper on and I don’t mind because it makes him more aware when he has to pee or poop. But, he’s peed on my carpet 3 times and shows us where he peed. We tell him that we go pee pee in the potty and we show him again in the bathroom.
I’m not sure what to do here. He enjoys running around without a diaper since we’ve started potty training and at initially I didn’t see it as a huge deal, but since he pees initially, then tells us, is this the right way to go?
And just to add, my son is a smart boy, but he’s also still very much a “baby” (I use that term loosely). So I feel like (and maybe I’m incorrect) he may not grasp the concept of a sticker chart or buying him a toy at the end of the week.
I don’t know, I’m stuck with this here. Any information is appreciated!

I had the toughest time potty training my son! lol..he would sit on the potty and pee or poop…only if he left his diaper on : ) It took awhile but he finally got it. It sounds like you are doing everything right so far. I let my small boy run around naked too and I found that he really did better if I place him in “huge boy underwear” because he could feel it getting wet. I also started my son at around two because I thought he was ready but it twisted out that he was only really unusual in this area it, lol I finished up not completely potty training him until he was in this area two and a half and that was only the peeing part, he had distress pooping in the toilet until he was a small older. You will do fine, just keep up with the praise, and if you notice a set back dont worry, just try again in a month or so. Excellent luck!

I am a mommy to a 18 month ancient small girl. BUT…the sticker chart has worked wonders for us! We started potty trianing on Friday daylight, and she only had 1 accident that day and it was because my nephew was on the potty. We are on day 5, with no accident. Every time she goes pee or poo I clap and tell her how she’s a huge girl, and huge girls get stickers! So then I place a sticker on the chart and she gets to pick a sticker out to place on her. Then we wipe, and wash our hands. I have also found if you can get gummy bears or some kind of soft candy they can have, it’s a treat. Therefore she goes potty just to get the treat! So far it’s worked for us!
By the way…I didn’t let me daughter run around naked, because I was worried of the whole pee or poo on the baffle! lol but Gerber does make plasic panties for girls and boys. So you can place him in huge boy panties, and place the plastic gerber one on him also, and then you won’t get anything on your baffle!

may not be of much help but i let my suns father take him 2 tha potty erytime he had 2 use it 2 show my sun how 2 poop n pee

You will have to intervene by asking him repeatedly every few minutes if he has to pee pee. The best way is to get him to the toilet before he goes on the baffle. If you notice that it’s been a while since he’s peed, take him to the toilet and question him to try. Perhaps you can get some colored confetti document to throw in the toilet and make a game of him trying to hit the confetti.

my son had the same problem. we resolved it by letting my husband take him to the bathroom and demonstrate how it’s done. it worked! as far as the poop thing goes, toddlers have a problem with their poop being flushed. they feel that it is a part of them and don’t want to see it go away. try getting a musical potty. it makes music when something is deposited in it. and don’t let him see you emptying it you can also try rewarding him for positive behavior. excellent luck.

I had a diffucult time training my 6 year ancient and my 4 year ancient is still etting it! But my 2 year ancient daughter nearly has it down! My 4 year ancient likes diapers he is like a baby himself!
